Given the linear equation 2x+3y–8=0, write another linear equation in two variables

Q6. Given the linear equation 2x + 3y – 8 = 0, write another linear equation in two variables such that the geometrical representation of the pair so formed is:

(i) intersecting lines (ii) parallel lines (iii) coincident lines

Solution

(i) intersecting lines

2x+3y-8=0

We know intersect lines

a1/a2≠b1/b2

we can write any equation according above formula

3x+5y-13=0

(ii) parallel lines

2x+3y-8=0

We know parallel lines

a1/a2=b1/b2≠c1/c2

we can write any equation according above formula

4x+6y-19=0

(iii) coincident lines

2x+3y-8=0

We know coincident lines

a1/a2=b1/b2=c1/c2

we can write any equation according above formula

6x+9y-24=0
