Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden, whose length is 4m-chapter 3 exercise 3.1 Q5

 5. Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden, whose length is 4 m more than its width, is 36 m. Find the dimensions of the garden.

Rectangular Perimeter = 2(l+b)

Half Perimeter = ½ x 2 (l+b)

½ x 2 (l+b) = 36

 l+b = 36 --------(1)

Length is 4 m more than its width

l = b+4 --------(2)

substitute l=b+4 in equation (1)

l+b=36

b+4+b=36

2b=36-4

2b=32

b=16

b=8 substitute in equation (2)

l=b+4

l=16+4=20

l=20, b=16
